...I didn't go to the Pride parade. I really felt like sleeping instead of crossing bridges, driving, parking, possibly busing, and fighting crowds with a boy who's really not keen on noise and doesn't appear to grok "gay" yet anyway. There shall be a next time.

Much has been made of the move to the Seattle Center next year. I can see both sides of it. Yeah, Broadway has the charm and the history, but more space and better access to transportation get a big thumbs up from this citizen.

It was fun, although I'm guessing that dykes on bikes could have caused a little bit of discontent there.

If they move the parade, it's going to kill the tiny little bit of gay community that manages to hang on in this city.  Yeah, go integration; destroy a community and do nothing about the needs that that community serves.

You're saying that the vibrancy of the gay community is dependent on the (location of the) parade? You're really going to have to sell me on that.

I'm torn as well. I really like having the parade on Broadway, but I could bus easily to Seattle Center and eliminate most of the day's hassles. I know that's the selfish approach, of course...

How selfish is it, though? When it comes to attendance, more is more. Even if you think it's easy enough to get to where it is, they ran out of room to stand along the route years ago. I've heard that merchants are upset about the move, which surprises me a little. Access to their stores is completely blocked.

I think the ones that sell any kind of food and beverage get a *lot* of walk-in business from the parade.

OK, that makes sense, but this isn't the weeks-long Christmas shopping season. Moving the parade shouldn't kill them.

"Much has been made of the move to the Seattle Center next year. "

Where would they do the actual parade. Sigh. Yet another event to clog up my neighborhood with.

That I don't know. If I were Imperatrix Mundi I'd send it south down 2nd or 3rd Avenue. It's a tradeoff between getting enough space while avoiding hosing down businesses and residents.

I don't really have an informed opinon about this one; however, now that I live ON the hill, it was sooo easy for me to get to the parade, and then leave again -
One argument (not mine) I heard for moving it was: are we trying to show ourselves to Seattle at large? We should be somewhere that's less well-known for having a glbtqa(etc) community, so they can see us in numbers, so they can see that we're (relatively) normal people, etc. If we just want to preach to the choir, we should just keep having it on Broadway, and further insulate ourselves...
shrug
I dunno...
It's only my second year being out anyway - what do I know?
