sistawendy: me smirking in my Hester Pryne costume (smartass hester)
Nibs says I still reek from the garlic fries at Safeco Field two days ago. I still think they were worth the ostracism and intestinal distress.

Frenzied housework reeks, but Mom's arriving tonight, so we gotta.

The RIAA definitely reeks. Yeah, I know that isn't news, but this is: several Internet radio stations are joining the protest over the royalty hike that'll kill a lot of Internet radio stations.

A few major software vendors reek for not having plugins that work with 64-bit Linux. No audio or video for me, I'm afraid.

Oh, and IKEA reeks for picking on goths. I'm not taking my new chair back, though.

Looks like that RIAA thing is the B side of all of this "the artists deserve full compensation at all times" anti-piracy stuff. Yes, yes, artists deserve money. But it's never the artists who profit the most from commodifying music in such a hard way. That's not what's really driving this, in my limited opinion.

The music companies don't mind killing off Internet radio stations, and ultimately don't mind killing off exposure and a dedicated fan base for the artists they own. Because they can always acquire more artists to produce their product. Ultimately, their interest in the artists is all for profit, and they do not "care." I could smell this coming when "alternative" folks started acting like fussy tax accountants, fretting over who gets what little shred of product for free. I call the general phenomenon "you got extra mold on YOUR bread!" They're worried about some poor kid downloading a song for free... come on. Yes, it will damage non-mainstream music if non-mainstream artists buy into this way of doing business. Yes, it will.

is there not a version of vlc for 64 bit linux? vlc is happy making, it plays damn near everything.

I'll need to get the dependencies straightened out. We'll see. Thanks.

I have heard that the garlic fries are amazing. As of yet, I have not had the opportunity to try them. Maybe some day.... I am just not a Safeco field kind of gal, though...
