A second doctor prevailed upon my mother to have radiation therapy and a second surgery. She was thinking of blowing it off because, she said, she'd read in a few places that it was dangerous and unnecessary. I think the real reason was a phobia of doctors that she shares with her family. Yeah, I could have gently told her that she was being dumb, but I've tried things like that before with her and gotten nothing but grief for it. I find it bizarre that anybody could fear what is now run-of-the-mill medicine more than cancer.

Oh by the way: I'll be there for the surgery. It's been rescheduled to a date when I was planning to be there anyway. I wonder if Mom will be easier or harder to deal with when she's taking good prescription shit.
