About nine months ago I bought cute shoes at a yard sale that were too small for me and proceeded to wear them dancing. (They've since found a good home with [livejournal.com profile] bensprincess.) The resulting toenail damage has just finished growing out. Just thought I'd share.

I mowed my gorgeous English daisies again -- they take up about half my front lawn -- in preparation for the arrival of the Nibbsmother. Definitely mixed feelings about that. Grow back soon, leetool flowers.

Juniper

Twin guardians by the front door
Sheltering our friend the garter snake
Flavoring cold drinks on a hot day
On the porch with Mom & Dad
Ever-spreading, unsinkable
Welcome home plants

Douglas Firs

They line the freeways and the frontage roads
Every right-angled street
Branching and branching again
The Thin Green Line
Standing arms outstretched toward each other
As long as they stand we're safe
From grey and black

Dandelions

Stowaways on the Mayflower
Whether they're bums and you pull them
Or they're hoboes and you eat them
Or they're winoes and you ignore them
How can you not admire a flower
So perfectly suited for spreading by children?

I like those poems. They are homey. And the last one is somehow elegant in its plainspokenness.
