...[livejournal.com profile] violentblue.

1. What makes you truly happy?
Writing code that works and does something cool. Having a sewing project turn out well. Seeing gorgeous women in gorgeous (yeah, often fetishy) clothes in person. Femming up well. Sunny days that aren't too hot. Rubbing my face on the Puppigrrl's ears. Deep, wet, passionate smooches. Exploring, especially urban areas. Treasure hunts. Whatever my obsession du jour is. Finding a new obsession du jour. Reading the news with nobody bothering me. Tickling my son, fwoomping his skinny belly, and singing to him in the shower. Singing, generally. Tunes I can groove to.

2. Where did you learn your wicked cool sewing/corsetry skills?
[livejournal.com profile] liepa taught me the basics and lent me the machine I use, but the rest of it is just practice. Trial and error, with the emphasis on the error. A lot of people seem to think there's natural talent involved, but I think it's mainly just persistence. Besides, I doubt that I'm as good as people think because I'm pretty good at hiding or fixing my mistakes. I'm certainly not as good as I'd like to believe; witness my travails with [livejournal.com profile] vixyish's corset. Real seamstresses like [livejournal.com profile] xiadyn don't buy patterns. They can just look at photos and do it, which I've never tried to do for anything more complicated than an ancient costume. I often tackle projects that are way harder than anything I've done before, and that's how I learn things.

3. Tell me a little more about the Wendling. What have been his greatest accomplishments/setbacks as of late?
Well, the potty training this past winter was huge for us parents (he still tells us when he's peed or pooped, which I find much cuter than Her Nibs does), but more recently he's started talking on the phone. I think the phone was hard for him because he doesn't like the sound of voices through it. Setbacks? Well, just this past week one of the neighbor boys told us he was running away from the Wendling, who's not the most socially adept kid you ever met. When other kids are trying to play baseball he'll hang around and collect rocks. He's also less coordinated than most kids his age, which I get to watch and wince at about twice a week during Little League practices and games. In other words, he's still acting a little autistic, but less so as time goes by. In many ways he's more me than I was. Speaking of which...

4. What were you like as a child?
You know that kid who always raised his hand first in class? That was me. Unathletic and geeky to the max, I was one of the last picked for kickball, but knew more of the periodic table than anybody else. I was pretty careful to keep a lid on my pervitude until I got out of college, but I wasn't all that popular with girls or anybody else for that matter. I had (and still have) some pretty gross habits. I never figured out how to dress right, and though I'm more clueful about it now I still find it difficult to care unless I'm en femme. What's most striking about my childhood is how little I've really changed.

5. Lastly, i'm done with school for the summer and have loads of time on my hands. what book would you recommend to me and why?
Hmm. I'm not as heavy a reader as a lot of people on my friends list, but I'm a huge Thomas Pynchon fan, so I'll recommend Gravity's Rainbow; it pushes my treasure hunt and perversion buttons, while still being Serious Literature that makes you think. For something shorter by him there's The Crying of Lot 49, an adventure in conspiracy theory. For something not as deep but still well-written and entertaining, I liked The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon, who did a wonderful job of creating charaters I cared about. Oh, and here's some non-fiction that I really dug: Genome by Matt Ridley. Lots of cool stuff about genetics, including much that I didn't know.

it's funny, gravity's rainbow and the crying of lot 49 are two books i put on my amazon wishlist about a year ago on a lark, and actually received. with school dominating the lion's share of my time, i hadn't gotten around to reading either and had completely forgotten i have them both. they're probably two of very few books i own that i've never read. eerie, huh?

would you like to interview me?

Otay!

1) You regularly consume a lot of mind-altering substances, including some by prescription. What's your favorite and why?
2) I'm quite a bit older than you are, so I'd love to know: what do you see yourself doing with your life in ten years?
3) What's your favorite artistic activity? Why? How often do you do it?
4) If you had to live somewhere other than where you do, where would you choose and why?
5) What are the biggest positive and negative lessons you've learned from the example of somebody in your immediate family?

The Crying of Lot 49 is amazing, amazing! Of course, so is Gravity's Rainbow. :)

I'm flattered, but I do actually buy patterns. :)
Designing a fitted garment from scratch is really time-consuming, so it's a lot easier to start with a commercial pattern that has the right general shape and then alter it.
Though I'm doing a halter top without a pattern, and discovering that making a fitted cup for someone as busty as me is tricky. I skimped on the fabric the first time around, and it didn't cover enough for my tastes.

OK, lemmesee:

1) What's your advice for those of us who want to change sex?
2) To what degree are you autogynephiliac, or are you outraged that anyone would suggest that any transsexual is?
3) For those of us including me who never read the Seagoth politics forum, how did you come to be pro-IRA?
4) You've worked in tech support, if I remember correctly, which is close to my idea of occupational Hell. What's your dream job, and why?
5) How big a pinko are you, and why?

All righty. (* channels Her Nibs the nosy journalist *)

1) You're one of the most androgynous people I've ever met. What's up with that? Is it a turn-on, or just a taste?
2) What's your favorite look on yourself? Others?
3) In the past you've been a SCAdian. Why'd you join up? Why'd you drop out?
4) You've been on anti-depressants, and I think that unlike a lot of people who've taken them, you needed them badly. Discuss. Were they a godsend or poison for you? Do you think they're over-prescribed?
5) You're a serious medievalist, right? List up to five works written about or during the middle ages that you recommend.

And me too! :D

Hmm. Let's see:

1) Dang it, I never see you. Why don't you hang out with the MOOers in meatspace more often? Where do you hang out?
2) You're a young 'un, but do you ever see yourself having kids? If so, when and how? If not, why not?
3) If I remember correctly (do I?) you came out to your parents not long ago. How'd it go?
4) You're an anime fiend. What about anime appeals to you? How did you get exposed to it?
5) Yeah, maybe this question's a little threadbare, but I'll try to make it interesting to you: list up to five must-see anime or manga.

1) What went kablooey, and where? Was it supposed to go kablooey? Who, if anybody, cleaned it up?
2) You do computer animation kinds of things, yes? What have you done with it? What are you doing now? What do you want to do with it in the future?
3) Do people (still?) fear you where you work? If so, why?
4) How did you and your beau meet? Why don't I see either of you much on MOO anymore?
5) Choose exactly one: leather, PVC, or latex? Why?
