Dating advice to yours truly over time:
  1. If you're kinky, go where the kinksters are, namely anytime at the CSPC.
  2. If you're queer, go where the queers are, e.g. Seattle Storm games or meetup.com.
  3. If you're queer and kinky, go where the queer-and-kinky people are, e.g. BSQ or the women's events.
  4. If you're queer, don't date people who aren't out.

How out is out enough, though? Out to everyone? Out to parents, as Dan Savage once wrote?
Oh: the ephemere martini at Dilettante is the shiznit.

I'm a fan of "can go out to dinner with you without wearing Groucho glasses."

Groucho glasses should always be totally voluntary.

I think this sounds like a perfect rule of thumb, myself. The noses on those Groucho glasses can really interfere with kissing.

So I'm the only one here with a Groucho Marx fetish? :)

Au contraire!

The beaglepuss is a fixture of my long-term dalliance with a cartoonist! My nightshirt right now is a red tee with a giant nose and glasses on the front.

I can't verify that this link is still active, because I'm at work. This link is NOT safe for work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6ld2aRWK2A

my preference is that people are out to everyone. i don't go out of my way to bring up the subject with coworkers or people i don't know well, but i don't avoid it either, and my family and coworkers have always known.

but, i could see myself dating someone who isn't out to their family, depending on their family situation. you don't get to pick whether you get a happy, healthy family or a family who's nuts. if someone's afraid to tell their family, they may also not be the sort of family that sees each other regularly and has a close relationship in general. i don't want to pretend to somebody's family that i'm "just a friend", but i also don't feel like it's my place to tell somebody else that they must come out to their family on my schedule. it's often a difficult and painful experience that doesn't necessarily result in family members opening their minds.

also, that truffle stuff is the bomb.
