It's been a gorgeously sunny and perfect weekend here in Seattle, which is why I walked around Green Lake yesterday morning. I could have predicted that doing so would make me more than an hour late to pick up my son for Norwescon. Since we were commuting in and parking is so scarce and expensive, I decided to park at my Lake Place and take the bus to the train to the con. It's all very clever and handy, but we didn't get there until 5:00. We saw the art show (There were feline remains involved, which freaked out my poor son.), no vendor fair, and no panels (which he didn't mind). He wanted to leave at around 7:00, so that was his con. He insisted that I take the train with him and wait with him in the tunnel for the bus to the east side. Yes, you can add anxiety to my son's Aspieness and ADD-like behavior. I think that's the last time I spend the time & money bringing him to a con. He's just not that into it.
So I got back to the con around 9:00 and partied it up a little. I was having a lovely time chatting with women half my age -
rowansilverwing looked fabulous, I might add - until I made the mistake of checking my work email. You guessed it: a situation. Leave the con at 11:00, and spend from 12:30 to nearly 2:00 dealing with work. It's a good thing I didn't need to go any later because...
...I had a brunch date with Funny Lady at Cafe Flora. Yes, the food was delicious and the conversation was wonderful, and did I mention she's adorable? We'd planned to hit the Japanese garden and maybe the Arboretum - complete with its romantic gazebo at the top of a slope - which are about three blocks around a corner. Sadly, we were almost to the garden when she suffered a recurring medical issue which used to afflict
cupcake_goth and
sirriamnis, If You Know What I Mean. I was terribly disappointed; my grand romantic plans had largely come to naught.
Punch line: Not wanting to waste a sunny day, I walked the length of the Arboretum and back. The gazebo is fenced off for repairs. You can't even take the paths up there. It's times like that when you really need to huff some cherry blossoms and chill out on a bench in a Japanese garden, so I did.
Tonight: taking m'boy to the Agora for my welding lesson with
gfish! I have an auto-darkening helmet, which should make things much easier. This could be the start of something awesome.
