I had my birthday and happy divorce party last night at the Wildrose. The number of people who showed was just right, considering how crowded the 'Rose was: we took up all the contiguous table space we could find. The Siberian Siren showed up in a strapless leather LBD - le swoon! - and after things wound down I took her to the Merc for the first time. She was a big hit there, as you can imagine. She says she liked it, somewhat to my surprise. I may have had a few birthday drinks bought for me, and drunken snogs etc. may have occurred. Ahem. Quite lovely.

I took my first Uber ride ever to the party because my bus stop told me the next bus was going to arrive in 20 minutes. I Uber'd home, natch, and finally turned off my light at about 0350.

I've made it to Ingress level four by hacking & deploying my way around Green Lake. I completely drained my phone battery while doing that. I've never done that before, and the battery life on my iPhone 6 is quite good.

The next Anomaly (Ingress meetup, for you civilians) is on February 27th. The Wendling is supposed to be with me that weekend, and I don't fancy my chances of convincing him to come with me. That's too bad because it's precisely the kind of exercise and social activity that he needs. mariquita said I should "hurry up and ding 8" before the Anomaly, but I'm not sure I'm going to make it.

We managed to keep the "when your battery is done it's time to go home" rule for the first five months of play. Then we both bought auxiliary batteries.
I personally prefer credit-card-shaped ones because you can stick them to the back of your phone and not have to deal with cable management issues like the big pop-can-sized ones a lot of other people favor. That's particularly helpful because I'm almost always playing with Lily on a leash, so I have to operate entirely one-handed.

The Anomaly is going to be a lot of fun. I think that even if your son doesn't play Ingress himself, he could revel in the sheer geekery and surrealness of it.

Also - since I inducted you into the culto to begin with, I should tell you of my favorite external battery: Anker 16,000 mAh (http://www.amazon.com/Anker-16000mAh-Compact-Portable-Charger/dp/B00N2T7U90/). You'll definitely want to get one before the Anomaly! I can play Ingress literally all day with this battery, and by the end of the day, I may have only drained it 1/3 of the way.
