Yow. Long update in reverse chronological order follows:

Today: Saw Shrek 2 with Wendling and was pleasantly surprised by how well he behaved. It was my first movie in a theater with him. Oh yeah: the flick wasn't bad, but it was much of the same.

Sunday: OK, what I like best about Memorial Day is that the Vogue is packed with peeps and eye candy -- and those two groups are certainly not mutually exclusive. I was a happy little sardine. It was wonderful to see you all.

SIFF flick: Danny Deckchair -- a romantic comedy done right from Australia. Mercifully low on smarm and high on quirk. Yeah, the theme of chucking it all and starting over resonates with this reviewer. You got a problem with that?

Saturday: crashed instead of going to [livejournal.com profile] shivacat's party. Scheduling snafus prevented me from coming in the afternoon. Le sigh.

Friday & Saturday: missed [livejournal.com profile] aaminahlefae's dance gigs not once but twice in a messed-up manner. I told Her Nibs that I wanted to go to Folklife, but I didn't tell her why until it was too late and other things got scheduled on top of it. I assumed she was more jealous of my time than she is, or so she tells me.

Friday: Finally watched Return of the King with Her Nibs. Not surprisingly, she thought it overlong and didn't dig the battle scenes. What is it that makes some people crazed (in my case moderately) Tolkien fans and others not?

Do you ever get a sensation in your nose that seems like the olfactory equivalent of feedback? I think it means I'm catching a cold. Brilliant timing.

Och! I am SO kicking myself for laming out on seeing Danny Deckchair! Doh! I have only heard wonderful cute charming things about it. I hope it gets some sort of small distribution somewhere, or at least a DVD release at some point, so I can see it. Siiiiiigh!

I have a feeling that flick is going to do pretty well. There were a few hokey bits of writing, but it's better than most of its kind.

We are as we are... in my case, Tolkien-movie fandom (I can't claim to Tolkien-book fandom, particularly) is largely inspired by the fact that I'm easily melted by beautiful visuals, easily melted by really good acting, and easily melted by really REALLY good music. Howard Shore is a god.
