Anyone who doesn't live under a rock, and it would have to be a rock in a remote area, has seen people walking around with AirPods, Apple's Bluetooth earbuds, in their ears. They look like Star Trek characters. Are they Lt. Uhura, or are they having their minds controlled by a sinister, addictive device as in "The Game" on The Next Generation?
Regardless, I've just joined them. Why would I spend that much on earbuds, you ask? Because the cheap ones wouldn't stay in my ears as I did housework, dammit, and sometimes the Bluetooth cut out even within my tiny lake place. And the battery life wasn't what I'd like. Oh by the way, I only recently learned that AirBuds have a mic, which you can use to talk to and maybe even through your phone.
How's the sound? Pretty good. No troubles with the Bluetooth range, either. The real test, though, is taking out the recycling with my earbuds in, which is about 15m. I'm not sure that's a fair test of any Bluetooth device, though; I'm OK if it cuts out, as long as I don't have to pair them again.
Once again, Apple gets the design right, and they get to take my money and make me look like a Star Trek character.
ETA: Apple has done a characteristically slick job with the software to get them to pair without any UI actions.
