I made chicken adobo last night as I've done so many times. The recipe calls for quite a bit of garlic, which is apparently characteristic of Filipino cuisine; the Filipino diner near Pike Place used to offer garlic fried rice for breakfast.

I. Love. Garlic. But just before 0200 this morning, I awoke from a nightmare. I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time this kind of thing has happened. So:

My take? Random Access Memories is Daft Punk doing disco with the OG musicians. Lovely, but a bit slavish. Human After All was Daft Punk doing butt rock. Not my bag. That leaves the first two, and the one that's most exuberantly, confidently, extravagantly them is, in this critic's estimation, Discovery. I've heard the complaint from one gay man that this album is way too popular among gay men, but you know what? It's deservedly so.

Over the years a question has come up a few times between the Tickler & me, or between Funny Lady and me: would you date yourself? Yeah, I know this question might be a little easier for queers to answer, so you straights are just going to have to use your imaginations and conjure up a person of the opposite binary gender who's as much like you as possible. Frivolous as this is, I'm curious.

A little over seven years ago, I posted a poll in an attempt to learn something about relative breast size vs. hand preference. My conclusion was that which of your boobs is larger doesn't correlate to hand preference, but asymmetry in general just might.

But the original study isn't quite what this entry is about. A few of you breast owners told me then that breasts are changeable creatures, and which one of yours is larger can be influenced by lots of factors. In other words, boobs happen. I've finally experienced this in the last few months: my left one used to be bigger, and now my right one seems to be.

I haven't changed my hormone dose since around the time I posted the poll. I've been eating & exercising the same for years. Could this be a breast explosion like the ones some of my cisgender friends report undergoing in their teens? I don't think so, but if I find myself in need of 38D (!) bras a few months hence, that'll will be a) scientifically interesting, b) rare as hens' teeth because yo, trans, and c) not unwelcome because a 38" chest makes even reasonaboobs look small.
sistawendy: black and white shot of me looking dramatic (drama)
Remember my poll about breast size vs. hand preference? I did that waaay back just five months after I started hormones. I've now been on them for more than six years, and now my answer to this poll question has changed.

My left breast is no longer the larger one, it seems, as of a few months ago. It's now my right. Some of you longtime breast owners told me this sort of occurrence is common. Evidence of that is now attached to me, even though my hormonal cycles are entirely artificial and therefore regular.

I can only speculate as to why: my weight is nearly the lowest it's been for about twenty years, which may have something to do with it.

You guys all know that since I lack a uterus, I don't need feminine hygiene products, at least not since a few months after surgery. [Poll #1982373]Naturally, I'll want to get an assortment of sizes. The SS taught me that I can get such an assortment in one package.

Australian ravers turned blond, hippy disco masters Cut Copy are on tour in North America. They're coming to the Sasquatch festival, which I can't remotely afford, and skipping Seattle and Portland, but they will be going to Vancouver, BC on 5/23 at the curious hour of 5:30 PM. Tickets go on sale Friday morning.

Pros:
  • Dude, Cut Copy! I have all their LPs, and their latest has been in the Sanctimobile's CD player most of this year.
  • The ticket price for Vancouver isn't out of line: $48 plus the usual pound of flesh for Ticketmaster.
  • I haven't been anywhere in Canada in about four years.
  • It's a kid-free weekend.
Cons:
  • That's the weekend [livejournal.com profile] randomdreams and [livejournal.com profile] manintheboat are coming up to Seattle. I have yet to meet [livejournal.com profile] manintheboat in meatspace.
  • I'd have to go all the way to Vancouver and back...
  • ...quite probably alone, because even though [livejournal.com profile] ionan's a fan, he doesn't think he has the $, and...
  • ...I'll be crossing an international border as a transsexual for sure.
So for the first time in a while, a poll:

I've suffered catastrophic nail polish failure on three nails. I've noticed that with the better brands, when it goes, it all goes at once. I'm wondering whether to get rid of the rest of it. That sounded like an LJ poll to me.

I actually paid attention to the poll results from my previous entry and ordered a replacement for my latex LBD for SEAF. Maybe one or two of you could give it a shine while we're there. Ahem. I've been discussing accessories with a trusted adviser, of course.

Resolved: I will not destroy this one through improper storage as I did the last one. Talcum powder on the inside after each wearing, and hang it so nothing is bunched together.
sistawendy: a cartoon of me in club clothes (dolly)
I've bought a Seattle Erotic Art Festival ticket for Friday, June 22nd. (By the way, I think scheduling it on Pride weekend was a bad idea. An awful lot of TLBG people go to SEAF, and many of them will have plans that weekend.) I've succumbed to my usual manias for advance planning and for polling, so here you go:

My Flowering will be no earlier than mid-February at the Wildrose, and it will be preceded by dinner at Cafe Flora. You heard it here first. Watch this space for a more specific date & time. So saith the poll.

I think what really sealed that name for me, though, was watching [livejournal.com profile] shivana lay a square egg when I told zem in person. (Ha! I got the pronoun right, without even having to edit!) I notice an interesting and somewhat disturbing breakdown by gender among the name responses.
sistawendy: me smirking in my Hester Pryne costume (smartass hester)
Two or three of you have suggested that once I'm healed up from surgery, I should have a party to celebrate. Being myself, I thought that was a damn fine idea. Decisions, decisions...

A while back I talked to the landlord & one resident about renting a room in a house seven blocks from where I work. It's also on the bus route to the Abbey, reasonably priced, with broadband, and clean. (Yeah, maybe a bit dull, but these days I know how to find excitement elsewhere.)

The sticking point was my 9/1 move date. He tried to find somebody for August only but didn't, and Nibs changed her mind in favor of an earlier move date, namely 8/15, even with pro-rated rent. So we have a verbal agreement! We'll nail down the legalities after the landlord gets back from vacation on 8/8.

On a related note, I (barely) helped [livejournal.com profile] dianala & [livejournal.com profile] smeehrrr move stuff out of their storage space, and got showered with promises of good stuff I want or need that they don't. Imagine worshipful hand motions here.

Their youngest is what, three years old? He's much more verbal & interactive than I remember m'boy being at that age. Watching [livejournal.com profile] smeehrrr enjoying his son so much, I got the nagging sense that I suck. One thing's for sure: coming out to my son is going to concentrate my mind on not sucking.
The results of yesterday's poll? A majority of women, but not an overwhelming one, carries one cinder block with two hands. The ones who carry one in each tend to be tall. Yeah, duh maybe, but again news to me. And it's a relief to hear that carrying one in each hand won't get me any grief.
sistawendy: me in my suffraget costume raising a finger in front of the Vogue (oh yeah)
I showed up early for last night's party, so naturally I pitched in to clean up & set up. This included carrying cinder blocks from the front yard to the upstairs from which to build speaker stands. I carried one in each hand, but the other girl who was helping out, a rather petite thing, thrust one forearm through each to carry them. If I remember right, she said her hands were too small to do it my way.

[Poll #1599886]

Note: This poll is not from the Dept. of Obscure Worries. I'll continue to use my hands.
sistawendy: me in my suffraget costume raising a finger in front of the Vogue (oh yeah)
Here are the results of yesterday's breast poll:

left larger right larger asymmetric (sum of left & right larger) neither larger
left-handed 0 0 0 6
right-handed 8 9 17 2
ambidextrous 1 1 2 1

Conclusions:
  • Breasts are dynamic. I've collected anecdotes (and I'm sure others have collected data) suggesting that plenty of events, hormonal and otherwise, can affect breast symmetry: puberty, childbirth, even asymmetric exercise. If this was a duh to you, it wasn't to me.

  • That said, I was struck not by any correlation of hand preference to either breast's being larger, but to more general asymmetry. Clearly this merits further study.

  • [livejournal.com profile] randomdreams, [livejournal.com profile] morthael, and [livejournal.com profile] ionan are sillyheads.

In other news, we had a FiOS outage here at the Abbey for about 16 hours. Nibs & m'boy were Displeased. It wasn't the fiber that had trouble, though; it was the crufty cabling on the outside of the house.

ETA: More data points!

Tonight's nun plan is the Usual Haunts because I'm a) hoping to see [livejournal.com profile] cow, [livejournal.com profile] evillinn, and [livejournal.com profile] ravenmimura; and b) more adventurous options are looking either impossible, inconvenient, or lame.

My #1? LJ, of course. Nothing's more conducive to hacking & spilling. Second best to me is Twitter, which may be the MOOer in me; there's something about the 140-character limit that's curiously liberating in terms of content.

I have the perfect way to celebrate getting out of today, and hopefully this week, alive. With a little help from a friend, I'll be able to go to Norwescon, contrary to my earlier expectation. And now, the eternal question: what to wear? My usual M.O. is to wear my Halloween costume because I'm too lazy or time-constrained to make anything new. In this year's case that's the Naughty Nurse from 1913. Hester Prynne hasn't gotten much love lately. It's a little warm for Lizzy, and the Suffragette is both recent and done, but I'll take requests. It's poll time!
