sistawendy: my Fluevog Atria boots as I'm standing in them (boots boootz)
Hey Seattle people who regularly find themselves downtown: nestled among the food court joints there's a shoeshine stand in the atrium of the Columbia Center, on 4th and - wait for it - Columbia. The Fluevog Truth Brittany boots that I'm wearing* were in dire need of TLC; I probably hadn't shined them since before wearing them all over San Francisco in '17. $20 plus tip, and I can see fluorescent lights reflecting off my toes. Happiness.

But am I a terrible person for not going to a bootblack in the (ahem) community? The kind I've found at an Inn Thrall party? I hope not. A shine and eetz in the same place is a powerful draw.

As was traditional, the one in the Columbia Center is Black-operated and, I assume, Black-owned. Ex once professed to be weirded out by the idea of patronizing such a business because of its historical associations. I don't see how the shoeshine business is more oppressive than numerous others. At least the Columbia Center stand had good ergonomics.

And I can't believe it took me this long to add a user pic of just boots. These are my birthday boots, Fluevog Atria, not the ones I just got shined.

*Yes, they're pointy, so I'm disobeying my doctor's orders by wearing them. Hush.

Reply to this post with "WARSHEEP!" "GIFs rule" and I will pick three of your icons for you to talk about in your own journal; please then keep the meme going by making this offer on your post.

I got tagged by [personal profile] ironymaiden, so here goes:

I use this for postscripts and other addenda, because it looks as if I'm saying "Oh yeah!" What I was really saying was "No, no, no." I don't remember what about. This picture was taken around Halloween of 2006, years before I began my Gender Switcheroo, while I was hanging out in front of the late, lamented Vogue on 11th.

ETA: This is my Suffragette costume, based - a little anachronistically, for the US - on an 1884 pattern. The sash, made from a wedding dress skirt, says "VOTES FOR WOMEN".

FFED stands for Funniest Friends' Entry of the Day. I usually use this icon in comments as an award that I infrequently bestow - sometimes more than once a day - on entries that I think are funny. Once in a purple moon I'll use it on one of my own entries that I think is funny. The style of this picture is ganked from the graphic on They Might Be Giants' LP Flood.

This is a detail from the 18th century-style corset, part of the Blue Confection for those who recall, which is an outfit that I wore in a photoshoot by [personal profile] staxxy way back in 2002. Since it's blue, I use it for entries and comments that are sad.

sistawendy: a Photoshopped version of me in the Mercury alley (confident altered)
The chin got to me. Forgive me, [livejournal.com profile] robotangel. I still have the unretouched userpic.

Techno alert: Modeselektor et al. at Re-bar, Friday. I'm unfamiliar with the headliner, but I've met one of the organizers/openers and music at Re-bar tends not to suck.
sistawendy: me looking stern in a blue velvet 1890s walking suit (lizzy)

The least realistic part of this is that I never remember to bring a fan.
sistawendy: a butterfly in the style of a street sign (butterfly)
Trans people have yet to come to a consensus on a symbol for themselves. There are various unwieldy conglomerations of Mars and Venus symbols, which I can't muster any enthusiasm for. There are also butterflies. While I can't argue with the symbolism, the way they're executed is too frou for my taste, not to mention hard to draw. So, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] vixyish's peds doing everything but xing, I give you... the pedderfly.

[livejournal.com profile] creatrix777 is right. It's time I got a face. This is also a much better picture of me than the one I saw from the Menagerie. Gyeugh!
