Jehovah's Witnesses don't vote.

a) That's a lowdown shame. I could have gone all day without learning that.
b) I'm proud to be an agent of karma for going to their house and annoying them.

My neighborhood is a lot weirder than I ever would have guessed. This makes me happy, mostly.

Doors knocked: about 180. Voters registered: 4. Le sigh.

I've seen a lot of people out in Seattle doing voter registration, too. (I hope this is why you're getting so few--most have already registered...)

I always try to encourage these people, because I really appreciate what they're doing. I was crossing 5th Avenue down by the Westin Sunday morning and someone stopped me, asking if I was registered at my current address; I said I was, but please keep up the good work, etc.

So yeah, keep on keepin' on. :D

(And that is sad about the Jehovah's Witnesses . . . is it a "don't get involved in the world" sort of thing?)

is it a "don't get involved in the world" sort of thing?

That's my guess: a novel interpretation of "render unto Caesar".

I'm not sure it applies to non-profits. The JWs are a big, established group, so I'd think they'd be too smart or too cautious to get this wrong.

A Jehovah's Witness left a long message on our machine this week, essentially inviting us to their church. Shouldn't this fall under the "Do Not Call Registry"?

The "Do Not Call Registry" only applies to commercial businesses, churchs, non-profits, and political parties, etc are exempt and can call all they want. Atleast that's what they said on the news last night.

Evil thoughts

Yeah. Now, thanks to you I am getting evil thoughts of coordinating people to go to JW's homes each week to register them to vote. We could send a different person each week.

But I would hate to bother the ones who don't bother us.

:)

OK, I'm a bad evil person... but isn't the non-voting status of Jehovah's Witnesses a good thing? ;-)

That occurred to me, but you never know, do you?
