Nibs & the Wendling learn a lesson about computers.

It seems that my son surfed his way to a malware site, probably in search of cartoons to watch, and apparently thereby infected Nibs' desktop. She called, mailed, and texted me last night and then said it's OK to fix it tonight. (?!)

Now, that machine has three accounts: one for me, one for Nibs, and one for m'boy. The first two have admin privileges, the third one doesn't, natch. So of course Nibs let him use hers.

This better be quick to fix. Between work, the Project, and the PTA, I've got too much on my plate.

Alternately, you could tell her it's OK to fix tomorrow, or Monday, or whichever evening you have less on your plate. No one has ever died in their suburban home from not being able to use their PC for a couple days.

Not so much. Nibs needs that machine to work. Remember, she works out of the house. No 'pooter = no income.

Perhaps it's time for the boy to start saving up his allowance & birthday money for his own computer so he doesn't affect Mom's revenue stream?

Suits me fine. Using it where we can't see him, though, is going to be an issue if I'm not there and Nibs won't leave the couch.

Set his up right next to hers. Or if it's a laptop, the rule is that it stays out of the bedrooom.

How long does a full OS reinstall take these days?

I think it's a single-digit number of hours. I'd prefer not to find out, though.
